Soper, Glen
Glen Soper, 81, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 31, 2010, with his family by his side at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello, with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. The Rev. Jonathan Kosec and the Rev. Cindy McKenzie will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Leona; and children, Sandra (John) Brodersen of Olin, David (Jamie) Soper of Center Junction, and Patricia Klocke of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Stacy (Kevin) Osterkamp, Nicki Brodersen, Andrea (Sheldon) Hunter, Jason (Mandy) and Josh (Adriel) Soper, Chad (Rachael) Klocke and Jennifer (Aaron) Handel; 20 great-grandchildren; his sister, Luella Eichhorn of Wyoming, two sisters-in-law, Betty Steenhoek of Cedar Rapids, and Delores (Harley) Dallege of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, John Klocke; a sister, Genevieve Monk; and a brother, LaVern Soper.
Glen Howard Soper was born Oct. 4, 1928, at Anamosa, Iowa. He was the son of Howard and Grace Bohlken Soper. Glen received his education in the Anamosa Schools, graduating with the class of 1947. Glen married Leona Mae French on May 26, 1951, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed in Jones County until 1998, when they moved to Monticello. Glen was a proud and active member of the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, having coffee with his friends, riding his motorcycle, spending time with his family and talking.
