Sondra Ann Broer, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, at her home. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Christ Community United Methodist Church in Marion. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom. Inurnment: New Providence, Iowa, at a later date.
Sondra was born Feb. 25, 1942, the daughter of Delmar and Marie (Deal) Snover in Des Moines, Iowa. She was married to Lyle Reece Broer on April 9, 1963, in Des Moines. Sondra was an excellent bridge player and would play for charity and fun. She would sit down and play a game with anyone and everyone. She often would come home and say, "I had a terrible time. I'm giving up bridge … for the day."
Sondra was a member of the Red Hat Society and a founding member of Christ Community United Methodist Church. She served on several nonprofit boards for low-income housing. Sondra was a loyal friend and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Lyle Broer; two sons, Eric (Stephanie) Broer and Chad (Ashley) Broer; five grandchildren, John, Cameron, Ella, Jayna and Macey; three brothers, Mike (Nancy) Snover, Barry (Christi) Snover and Bob (Debby) Snover; and sister, Vicki Purcell.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Laura Broer; and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a charitable cause in memory of Sondra.
