Sommer, Warren F.
Warren F. Sommer, 79, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at the Meth-Wick Community-Woodlands, Cedar Rapids. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
Survivors include his sons, Steven of Ankeny and Craig (Kim) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Christine, Kaitlyn, Shalee and Jonathan Sommer; sister, Lois Sommer Stodghill (Marvin) of Hendersonville, N.C.; and nephews and niece, Curt, Mark, Neil and Ellen Stodghill.
Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Jennabelle; and his parents.
Warren was born May 8, 1934, in Antigo, Wis., to Rhino and Margaret Koeckenberg Sommer. He graduated from the Aledo Military Academy and entered the Air Force where he served in Germany. He was an Airman 2nd Class. On June 23, 1962, he married Jennabell Hartman of Cedar Rapids. She died in 2012. Warren was a printer for Service Press in Iowa City until his retirement. He was an active member of the Lions Club, Boy Scouts, St Paul's United Methodist Church, ushering every Sunday in the balcony, also an active member of the Kum Double Sunday school Class. He was a driver for the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Luke's Hospice, Habitat for Humanity or Meals on Wheels.
