Solarz, Marilyn Safely
Marilyn Safely Solarz, 81, passed away July 12, 2013, at her home in Annapolis, Md.
Marilyn was born in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 23, 1932, to Frederick and Dorothy Safely. She was a 1950 alumna of Franklin High School, graduating with the January class. Marilyn was the great-granddaughter of Civil War Medal of Honor awardee Brevet Lt.-Col. Charles A. Clark, who settled in Cedar Rapids in 1876 and was an early mayor of the city.
Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and beloved by her many friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Andrea of Arlington, Va.; daughter, Valerie (T.J. O'Connell), and granddaughters, Giavanna and Tamara O'Connell, of Centreville, Md.; and sister, Meredith Hill of Alexandria, Va.
Her devoted husband of 57 years, Andrew, passed away in 2011. Her parents and her sister, Mary Anne Kelbley, also preceded her in death.
Interment will be in Crownsville Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, Md., where her late husband rests.
