Snethen, James E.
James E. Snethen, 94, of 2841 Henry Ct. NW, died Friday, May 6, 2011, at his home after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Lee Kruse and the Rev. Beth Harbaugh will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, with miltary rites. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; a brother, Harold of Eugene, Ore.; three sisters, Doris Anderson of Washington state and Verda McLain and Lois McQuerry, both of Missouri; a grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Inez.
Jim was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Cainesville, Mo., the son of John and Leah (LaFolette) Snethen. He married Gladys M. Coberly on Aug. 16, 1940, in Lone Tree. Jim farmed for several years, was owner and operator of Snethen Construction Co. for 17 years and later sold Amway for over 40 years.
He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and proudly served in the Army during World War II.
Jim was a rock hound and made beautiful jewelry designed from the stones he found. He enjoyed yard work, flowers and was a real people person.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved family and his many many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to St. James United Methodist Church.
