Snell, Mary Martha
Mary Martha Snell, 52, of 1517 Bever Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Tom McDermott. Burial: 1 p.m. Saturday, St. John Cemetery. A vigil will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Mary is survived by her husband, Norward (Bob); three daughters, Annie Hernandez and Jane Snell, both of Cedar Rapids, and Maria Chaffee of North Liberty; two sons, Adam (Donna) Chaffee and David Hernandez, all of Cedar Rapids; her father, Juan Hernandez of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Patty (Mike) Forbes; four brothers, John (Lynette), Bob (Kim), Vic (Kenda), and Dave (Tina) Hernandez; and 10 grandchildren, Darius, Trevon, Maliq, Carmella, Cameron, Cameron, Ashlyn, Janessa, Adrian and Derrick.
Her mother, Carmen; a baby daughter, Ellie; Dennis Chaffee; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Hazelbaker, preceded Mary in death.
Mary was born Nov. 20, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Juan and Carmen Gonzalez Hernandez. She married Norward Snell on June 28, 1989, in Anamosa. She was employed in customer service by MCI.
Mary enjoyed listening to music, dancing with grandchildren, gardening, cooking for her family, playing games, watching tornadoes and scary movies and reading. She loved animals and spending time with her family.
