Smith, Wayne A.
Wayne A. Smith of Waterloo, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital from congestive heart failure. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, March 10, at Grace Lutheran Church with military rites by Waterloo VFW Post No. 1623 and American Legion Post No. 138. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, Waterloo. His body has been cremated.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Smith of Waterloo; daughter, Kimberly (Kent) Cromer of Marion; son, Alan Smith of Hiawatha; daughter, Lora Michels of Cedar Falls; daughter, Julie (Jeff) Turner of Dysart; daughter, Kari Torkelson of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, Wayne, Diane, D.J., David, Brandon, Jennifer, Jordan, Alex, Justin and Ben; a great grandson, Robert; brothers, Pete (Florence) Smith of Olin, and Ardith (Carol) Smith of Alburnett; and a sister, Hilda Martin of Alburnett.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Norma; brothers, Faye, Don, Aubrey, Lowell and Cledeth; and a sister in infancy.
Wayne was born in Alburnett, Iowa, to George and Gertrude Smith. He married Marilyn Kreutzer; they later divorced. He married Joan Hines on May 17, 1975. He received his education at Alburnett High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He was a salesman for Walnut Dairy and later Oxford Chemical. He retired in 1990. He belonged to Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo VFW Post No. 1623 and volunteered at Allen Hospital in the Cardiac Department.
Memorials may be made to World War II Honor Flight or to Grace Lutheran Church.
