Smith, Ruth
Ruth Smith, 91, Marion, died at Living Center West, Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home by the Rev. Vicki Standley. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her children, Fran (Jerry) Elsea of Cedar Rapids and Howard “Larry” (Nancy) Smith of Moorestown, Pa.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Elsea, Amanda (Steve) Noble, Lisa (Rob) Czepiel, Matthew (Katie) Elsea and Bret Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Laine, Stephanie and Robin Noble, Ethan Czepiel, Kelsey Smith and Anna and Zane Elsea.
She was loved by everyone and known as “Grammy.”
Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Nanticoke, Pa., to John and Margaret Randall, she was the seventh of 12 children. Ruth was the widow of Howard Smith, her teenage sweetheart whom she married in Gouldsboro, Pa., on Oct. 14, 1940. Ruth was a member of the “Greatest Generation” who persevered through World War II.
We will all miss her strength, courage and generosity.
