Smith, Robert Clarence

 Robert Clarence Smith, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Pastor Del Bear will officiate. Friends may call one hour before the service.

Survivors include his wife, Karlene of Cedar Rapids; children, Eric and Kesa Smith; brothers, Steven, Victor (Diana) and Kenny Smith; sister, Pam (George) Rusk; in-laws, Kevin (Val) Snyder and Karen (Tim) Buelow and families; and a dear friend and care giver, Jim Huston.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Kay Snyder and Connie Smith; and his mother- and father-in-law.

Robert was born Jan. 3, 1949, in Hof/Saale, Germany, the son of Robert and Elfriede (Wolfrum) Smith. Robert attended Marion High School and was veteran of the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He married Karlene Snyder on Sept. 5, 1981, in Mount Vernon. He was employed for many years with Mount Mercy College in the maintenance department.

Robert's greatest joys in life were his family and trout fishing.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established by the family.
