Smith, Paul H.
Paul H. Smith, 79, of Vinton, died Friday, April 1, 2011, at Virginia Gay Hospital following a brief illness. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vinton. Father Ardel Barta will be celebrant. Private family committal services: Mound Cemetery, Watkins. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Phillips Family Center, 605 Second Ave., Vinton. In accordance with Paul's wishes his body has been cremated.
Paul H. Smith was born Nov. 10, 1931, the son of George H. and Kate (Trojovsky) Smith at Cedar Rapids. He was raised in the Watkins area, graduating from Norway High School. On Sept. 8, 1952, Paul was united in marriage to Yvonne Kness in Cedar Rapids.
Paul worked for many years for Asplundh Tree Service and later for LeFebure Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids. In his leisure he enjoyed hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne of Vinton; his children, Mary (Clarence) Bilsland, Shellsburg, Dennis Smith, Vinton, Keith Smith and Connie (Al) Keller, both of Cedar Rapids, and Tracey (Kevin) Kirk, Robins; his grandchildren, Shawn (Cynthia) Mahan, Jason (Catherine) Mahan, Mike, Lyndsay and Ryan Smith, and Spencer and Kate Kirk; his nine great-grandchildren; his brother, George (Alice) Smith, Cedar Rapids; his sister-in-law, Theresa Smith, Norway; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Hubert and Edward Smith; and his sisters, Valera Gavin, Collette Gerling, Rose Bratton and Marguerite Ferris.
