Smith, Mary A.
Mary A. Smith, 66, of 184 Mulberry Dr. SE, Cascade, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2012, at 2:35 p.m. at Finley Hospital in Dubuque. Friends and relatives of Mary may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a CDA and Cascade American Legion Auxiliary rosary will be held at 4:30 p.m. and a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services for Mary will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be held in Dubuque Memorial Gardens in Key West, Iowa.
Mary was born June 9, 1946, in Zwingle, Iowa, daughter of Joseph M. and Helen M. (Nolan) Marshall. She was a graduate of Wahlert High School in Dubuque. On June 5, 1965, she was united in marriage to Virgil Smith at Assumption Catholic Church in Sylvia Switch, Iowa. She was employed as a dietitian at the NICC Child Care Department.
She was a member of St. Matthias Parish, Cascade American Legion Auxiliary, Shady Rest Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of the Americas-Our Blessed Mother Court 1926, and the Blue Moon Cruisers.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Smith of Cascade; two sons, Rodney (Joy) Smith of Anamosa and Mike (Tara) Smith of Cascade; one daughter, Shelley (Scott) Annis of Cascade; three grandchildren, Rebecca Annis and Megan and Tyler Smith; two brothers, John (Sharon) Marshall and Patrick (Marion) Marshall, both of Dubuque; and two sisters, Martha (Wayne) Jeidy of Wisconsin and Suzanne Burds of Dubuque.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mary A. Smith memorial fund has been established.
