Smith, Dominic 'Nic'

Dominic “Nic” Smith, 38, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy Hiawatha. Memorial Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the Neighborhood Church, 701 25th St. NE, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Jim Coyle. Burial: Sutton Cemetery, Maquoketa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Stacie Smith of Mount Vernon; mother, Sandra Smith of Cedar Rapids; stepfather, Leonard Kase of Keokuk; sister, Kenna (Pierrie) Brewer of Cedar Rapids; sons, Isaac Smith of Cedar Rapids, Damian Smithof Swisher and Jimmy Ramirez of Mount Vernon; niece, Zakaya Stokes of Cedar Rapids; nephew, Zakarius Kase of Cedar Rapids; and many cousins and extended family.

He was preceded in death by father, Namet “Jeff” Hanna; grandmothers, Helen Brown and Dolores Smith; grandfathers, Richard Brown and Robert E. Smith; and uncle, Robert J. Smith.

Nic was born June 5, 1974, in Cedar Rapids, son of Namet “Jeff” Hanna and Sandra Smith. He graduated from Metro High School in 1995, then attended Kirkwood. On Oct. 20, 2012, he married Stacie Bowen at Faith Community Church in Maquoketa. Nic worked as a landscaper and mason in Cedar Rapids.

He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Most of all he loved time spent with his wife, sons and family.
