Smith, David O.
David O. Smith, 58, of Swisher, died Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at home after a four year battle with a metastatic kidney cancer. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home by Deb Black. Inurnment: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg, at a later date. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; mother, Ruth Smith of Cedar Rapids; sister, Sara Smith Gates of Las Vegas; brother, Bradley (D'Anne Hotchkiss) Smith of Robinsville, N.J.; brother-in-law, Bill (Janelle) Holub; sister-in-law, Marylou (Travis) Coonfare; nieces and nephews; and his devoted labs, Anna and Libby.
Dave was born March 21, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, to Andrew and Ruth Smith. He married Carol Holub on Sept. 13, 1975 in Prairieburg. He was employed by Schneider Electric for over 30 years as a quality engineer. Dave was a member of ASQ.
Dave and Carol were course monitors for the Fifth Season 8K race for 25 years. Dave will be remembered as a loving husband, son, brother and friend. He was an honest, kind and gentle man who enjoyed good food and wine and traveling with his wife in their fifth wheel. He especially enjoyed all the festivities surrounding St. Patrick's Day with friends. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
