Smith, Arlene M.
Arlene M. Smith, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Nov. 25, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. There will be a service to celebrate Arlene's life at 10 a.m. Dec. 1 at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Pastor Paul Wilcox will officiate. A visitation is planned for Nov. 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include sons, Dave (Deann) Ongie, Scott (Dawn) Ongie and Bill Ongie; daughter, Carol (Terry) Tucker; grandchildren, Douglas, Gregory, Aminda, Kyle, Danielle, Michael, Nicole, Ashley and Hailey; and three great-grandchildren, Grant, Holden and Mason.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; son, Steve; and brother, Robert.
Arlene M. Smith was born March 27, 1930, in Ishpeming, Mich., the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy (Williams) Gustafson. She married Charles S. Ongie. Arlene was a seamstress who worked out of her home and for Armstrong's for many years. She attended Lovely Lane United Methodist Church for nearly 50 years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by the family.
