Smalley, Mary B.
Mary B. Smalley, 54, of North Liberty, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Jan. 7, 2012, following an extended illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. The Rev. Christopher Podhajsky will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will begin at 4 p.m.
Surviving are her sons, Brandon Smalley of Iowa City and Ryan Smalley and wife Jenny of North Liberty; and one grandson on the way. Also surviving are her sisters, Nancy Zimmers and husband Michael of Springfield, Ill., Sidney Lutz and husband Larry of Shueyville, Sara Tack and husband Duane of Iowa City, and Stacy Martin and husband Dave of Cedar Rapids; nieces, Layne, Laryn and Sam; and nephews, Josh, Jason and Joe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elaine Severa; and her brother, Timothy Severa.
Mary was born July 4, 1957, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Joseph and Elaine (Bierbach) Severa. She attended the University of Iowa and later worked at Kirkwood Community College. Her last place of work was as a bookkeeper at Advance Builders Corporation.
Mary loved working on the farm and gardening and her beloved dogs, especially Bo. She also enjoyed traveling and vacationing to Florida.
She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations in Mary's honor may be directed to the family.
