Sloan, Jo Ann Tindall
Jo Ann Tindall Sloan, 85, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Quasqueton, died June 29, 2011. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, at Quasqueton Union Church, where the family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. to service time.
Survivors include her son, William (Susan) of Quasqueton; two granddaughters, Jessie, currently serving in Afghanistan, and Jenna of Tampa, Fla.; stepson, V.J. (Rocky) Sloan III of Washington state; and nieces and nephews, Tom and Mary Mills of Texas and Harry and Nancy Carpenter of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. V.J. Sloan; two infant sons, James and David; her sister, Virginia Mills; and parents, Lee and Irma Tindall.
Born June 19, 1926, in Kirksville, Mo., Jo Ann was the daughter of William Lee and Irma (Parks) Tindall. She was a 1944 graduate of Woden High School and a 1948 graduate R.N. of the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. On Aug. 10, 1947, Jo Ann was united in marriage to Dr. Vernon J. Sloan.
Jo Ann was a very intelligent, independent, and generous woman. She loved to play bridge and was a life Master Bridge player. She loved to read and traveled extensively around the world.
Jo Ann was a 68-year member of Order of Eastern Star and a Past Queen of Eu' cha-rest Temple No. 68 in Cedar Rapids. She was also a member of the Quasqueton Legion Auxiliary.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children.
