Slach, Irene K.
Irene K. Slach, 93, formerly of Martelle, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. Private family burial will be held Friday Dec. 9. The family would like everyone to join them for a time of lunch and fellowship at noon Friday at the United Methodist Church in Martelle. Pastor John Keizer will officiate at the service. Visitation will be from 3 to p.m. Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa.

Surviving are her three children James (Carol) of Martelle, Jeff (Kay) of Martelle and Karen (Ken) Locke of Toddville; a sister, Bettie Fay; a brother, Harold Weller of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Karri Duve, Jennifer Slach, Aaron Slach and Jason Parmenter; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; a sister, Dorothy Kleppe; and a brother, Forrest Weller.
Irene K. Weller was born May 27, 1918, in Tipton, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Mary Cessford Weller. She graduated from Tipton High School. On Jan. 1, 1945, Irene and Floyd Slach were united in marriage in Iowa City. The couple farmed in the Stanwood and Cedar County area then moved to the Martelle area in 1955. Irene worked as a cook at Cornell College in Mount Vernon for 25 years before retiring. Irene lived at Meyer's Meadows in Lisbon for 10 years before moving to the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon. She enjoyed volunteering at the Southeast Linn Senior Dinning and Community Center in Lisbon.
Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will be missed dearly by those closest to her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Southeast Linn Community Center in Lisbon or Norwich Cemetery in Martelle.
