Skubal, Charles A.
Charles A. Skubal, 95, of Iowa City, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Mercy Hospice, Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or to Iowa City Hospice.
Charles was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Riverside, the son of Frederick and Ida Shradel Skubal. He was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Riverside. On May 2, 1946, Charles married Maxine McMahon at St. Mary's Church in Riverside.
Charles and Maxine lived in the Riverside area from 1948 to 1981, where they farmed until 1971. They moved to Iowa City in 1981, where Charles was employed in housekeeping services at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1971 to 1984.
Charles was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, enjoyed refinishing furniture and was a jack of all trades.
Charles is survived by his son, Ronald (Pam) Skubal of Reedsburg, Wis.; his sister, Dorothy (Paul) Scherrer of Riverside; two grandchildren, Nicole Lynn Skubal (Jason Tomcik) and Martin (Gina) Skubal, both of Madison, Wis.; two stepgrandchildren, Heather (Doug) Field of Madison, Wis., and Ashley Houslet of Reedsburg, Wis.; and three great-grandchildren, Collier Skubanelli, Kennedy and Brady Field.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three siblings, Fred Jr., Joseph and Francis
Ron and Pam would like to extend their appreciation to Ed and Virginia Dunbar, Mike and Chris Weinard and Bill O'Malley for all the care and friendship they provided to Charles.
