Sixta, Helen Marie Stourac
Helen Marie Stourac Sixta, 91, a resident at Northbrook Manor Care Center, died Thursday, June 10, 2010, of natural causes. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, with memorial services to follow at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Czech National Cemetery.
Helen was born June 12, 1918, of Czech heritage, in Cedar Rapids. She attended school in Cedar Rapids and worked at First Trust and Savings Bank, where she met Ernest “Ernie” Frank Sixta, who she married in 1945. They had one son and settled in Trenton, N.J., in 1952 after returning from England on a Fulbright Scholarship for Ernie for two years. Helen worked and raised her family in Ewing, N.J. In 1993, she returned to Cedar Rapids after suffering a stroke.
Surviving are her son, James of Round Rock, Texas; grandson James II (Deb) of Altoona; granddaughter, Sara Hunter (Adam) of Cedar Rapids; and great-grandchildren, Samantha Sixta and Ian Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; her parents, Mary and Frank Stourac; and her daughter-in-law, D. Christine Sixta.
Memorials may be directed in her name to the charity of the donor's choice.
