Sister Roseline Kos, RSM, 98, died Monday, Dec. 14, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a brief illness. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel by the Rev. Keith Birch and Msgr. Russell Bleich. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Chapel with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral Home.
Sister Roseline was born on March 11, 1917, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Dostart) Kos. She attended Immaculate Conception School in Charles City and graduated in 1935. In 1937, she entered the Sisters of Mercy Community in Cedar Rapids.
Sister Roseline received her associate's degree from Mount Mercy Junior College in 1948; her bachelor's degree majoring in elementary education from St. John's, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1958; master's degree majoring in elementary education from St. Mary's, Xavier, Kan., in 1962; and an advanced certificate from the State of Iowa in elementary education in 1969.
Sister Roseline was a lifelong teacher, principal and mentor for teachers. She served at St. Wenceslaus, Cedar Rapids; St. Benedict's, Decorah; St. Matthew's, Cedar Rapids; Sacred Heart, Oelwein; St. Joseph's, Dewitt; St. John's, Clarion; Our Lady of Grace, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mount Mercy College, Cedar Rapids. She was actively involved in the education department of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
Upon her retirement, Sister Roseline volunteered at the Catherine McAuley Center, Sacred Heart Convent and Mercy Medical Center.
Sister Roseline was a Sister of Mercy for 78 years.
In addition to the Sisters of Mercy, Sister Roseline is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Marie and Kenneth; and aunt, Sister Clotilde Dostart, RSM.
