Sister Anne Marie Healy, RSM, 72, died May 9, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after an extended illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, at the Sacred Heart Convent Chapel. Burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Sacred Heart Chapel, with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Arrangements are with Teahen Funeral Home.
Sister Anne Healy was born Oct. 19, 1944, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence and Florence (Griffin) Healy. She attended St. Joseph's School in Farley and graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Farley in 1962. She entered the Detroit Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in 1962.
Sister Anne received a B.S.N. in nursing from Mercy College of Detroit in Detroit, Mich., in 1967 and an M.S., majoring in nursing and minoring in education, from the University of Colorado in Denver in 1974. She completed her Ph.D. in education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1995.
Sister Anne's first ministry was in direct health care. From 1968 to 1972, she was an R.N. in the following hospitals: Mercy Hospital, Jackson, Mich.; St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Clinton, Iowa; and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa. She departed the Detroit Regional Community of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in 1978. She was a nursing instructor at the following schools from 1976 to 1980: Mercy College of Detroit and University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh. She was an assistant professor at Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, from 1980 to 1982. The remainder of her teaching career was spent at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, where she was an associate professor from 1982 to 2004. She re-entered the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Community in Cedar Rapids in 2002. She then was a pastoral associate and parish nurse at St. Benedict Parish in Decorah from 2005 until her retirement.
Following her retirement, Sister Anne volunteered at the Catherine McAuley Center in Cedar Rapids. Sister Anne was a vowed member of the Sisters of Mercy for 30 years.
In addition to the Sisters of Mercy, Sister Anne is survived by her sister, Sister Marjorie Healy, PBVM, Entre Rios, Bolivia; her sister-in-law, Shirl Healy, Naperville, Ill.; her niece, Elizabeth Leo; her nephew, Jason Healy; grand-nephew, Alex Ressa; numerous cousins; and her friend, DeAnn Ambroson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Florence; and brother, Randy.
