Sindelar, Charles 'Carl'
Charles “Carl” Sindelar, 85, of Central City, died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Central City by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include his children, Chuck (Sonja) Sindelar of Coggon, Terry (Cathy) Sindelar of Robins, Cheryl (Rick) Taylor of Central City, and Tom (Kim) Sindelar of Central City; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 9 stepgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Carl was born Nov. 10, 1926, in Colombia, Mo., the son of Frank and Josephine (Korn) Sindelar. He served in the United States Army Cavalry during World War II. On Aug. 18, 1948, Carl was united in marriage to Bernadine Brunen at St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids. Bernadine died Feb. 17, 2004. Carl was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Central City. He took great pride in his cattle and his beloved pet, Duke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Carl's honor.
