Simpson, Alton Claire

MARION - Alton Claire Simpson, 80, of Marion, left this life on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services: 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Marion by the Rev. Donald Loesch. Family will greet friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dolores; three children, James (Katherine) Simpson of Dallas, Texas, Cynthia (Mark) Doolittle of Story City and Michael Simpson of San Antonio, Texas; four grandchildren, Matthew (Lisa) Simpson of Atlanta, Ga., Caroline (Jeffrey) Endres of Fort Worth, Texas, Jennifer (Darryl) MacRunnel of Boone and Tara (Dylan) O'Brien of Hubbard; four great-grandchildren, Alison, Logan, Noah and Tessa MacRunnel; and a sister, Helen Lindholm of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
Alton was born Nov. 15, 1929, in Cedar Falls, the son of William E. and Ruth (Atwood) Simpson. He was a graduate of Cedar Falls High School and Iowa State University. In 1949, Alton was united in marriage to Dolores Kemmerer in Waterloo. He served in the United States Air Force and retired as a contract manager at Rockwell after 38 years.
Alton was an accomplished artist following his retirement, whose work had been displayed at the Marion Heritage Center. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent a lot of time hunting and fishing. In his life, his family always came first.
