Simmons, Terry R.
Terry R. Simmons, 46, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, of injuries he incurred in a fall. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Zion Lutheran Church, 310 N. Johnson St., Iowa City. A time of fellowship will follow the service. Graveside committal will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, the Terry Simmons Children's Fund, c/o Hills Bank and Trust, has been established.
Terry was born Feb. 6, 1965, in Waterloo. He was a graduate of East Buchanan High School and Hawkeye Technical College and attended Iowa State University, where he studied architectural engineering. On Feb. 20, 1988, Terry married Cheryl Close in Iowa City.
Terry was a project manager with Ryan Construction. His most recent project was the Federal Courthouse in Cedar Rapids.
Terry had many talents and interests but most important was his involvement in the lives of his sons. Terry helped them in sports, scouting, and building projects, such as derby cars and rockets.
He was a loving husband, father, son and brother.
Terry is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and their four sons, Calvin, Jacob, Timmy and Joe, all of Iowa City; his mother, Alice (Andy) Moeller of Dunkerton; five siblings, Wanda (Jim) Halverson of Iowa City, Heidi (Rob) Brandon of Glenbury, Md., Derek Moeller and Brent Moeller, both of Waterloo, and Matt (Mihaela) Moeller of St. Paul, Minn.; his in-laws, Paul (Susan) Close of Iowa City; brother- and sister-in-law, Polly (Drew) Young of Rockton, Ill., and David (Nina) Close of Lavonne, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Christina Sue Ann.
