Simmons, Marcella A.
Marcella A. Simmons, 87, of Summit Pointe Senior Living Center in Marion, died there Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009, from a long illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. John Gossman will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Norma (Gary) Ford, Lyla Richards, Marlys (Bob) Herring, all of Marion, and Aletha (Lyle) Fox of Toddville; two sons, John (Bev Moriarty) O'Donnell and Bill (Tracie) Simmons, both of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Delores Welch of Indiana, Myrtle (Harold) Rosonke of New Hampton and Mary Knutson of Charles City; and one brother, Virgil (Monica) Marvin of Alta Vista. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Laverne and Clarence; and a sister, Alice.
Marcella was born Sept. 23, 1922, in Chickasaw County, the daughter of Irvin and Kathryn Boehmer Marvin. She married Robert Lee Simmons on March 24, 1962, in Downing, Mo. He died in 2008. Marcella worked for Cedar Rapids Schools food service, retiring from there after more than 23 years of service.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Marcella enjoyed crafts, making porcelain dolls, raising and watching birds, and especially the time she spent with her beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to Iowa Hospice in Marcella's name.
