Simmons, Edyth Mae
Edyth Mae Simmons, 97, of Marion, and formerly of Alburnett and North English, died Monday, July 4, 2011, at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, Iowa. Memorial service: 3 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. John Louk. The family will greet friends one hour before the service. Private family burial: North English Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, OraLee Hollingsworth of Cedar Rapids, and Jerry Simmons of Shakopee, Minn.; daughters-in-law Jerri Simmons of Van Horne, and Laura Simmons of Columbus, Ohio; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous “bonus” grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sons, Richard, Craig, and Kieth ; two daughters, Regina Anderson and Alberta Hartgrave; a son-in-law, James Hollingsworth; three brothers, Harold, Dalton, and Harve; one sister, Cecile Pauley; and two grandchildren.
Edyth was born February 11, 1914, the daughter of Charles and Frances (Joyce) McAtee, in Center Point, Iowa. She married Albert Dean Simmons on April 10, 1933, in Anamosa, Iowa. He died February 13, 1973.
