Sidney "Bobong" Balongag, 54, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father David O'Connor. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church.
Sidney is survived by his wife, Lynn; a daughter, Alexis Balongag; brothers, Sievert Balongag, Mark Balongag and John Balongag; and sisters, Sheila Balongag and Minda Balongag.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anacleto "John" Balongag Jr.; and his adoptive parents, Raymond and Donna Balongag.
Sidney was born Jan. 21, 1963, in Larena, Siquijor, Philippines, the son of Anacleto "John" Jr. and Norma (Padayhag) Balongag. He was raised by his adoptive parents, Raymond and Donna Balongag. He graduated from L.N.V.S. in the Philippines and Elgin Community College in Illinois, with a degree in computer-aided design. On April 8, 2005, Sidney was united in marriage to Lynn. He worked as a circuit board designer at Rockwell Collins. Sidney enjoyed playing basketball. He loved spending time and traveling with his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
