Short, Robert 'Bob' J.
Robert “Bob” J. Short, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Memorial Services: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. Peter Mitchell of Marion Christian Church. A visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Tuesday, until the time of service.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; children, Mark (Joni) Short, Scott Welsh, Robinn (George) Lewis and Tina Welsh (Mike Fleischacker) all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Tasha, Ashley, Derrick, Lauren, Jennifer, Jessica and Daniel; five great-grandchildren, Broc, Kamree, Paige, Natalia and Violet; and a brother, Francis (Liz) Short of Carroll.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jim; and daughter, Marcella “Marty” Short.
Bob was born Dec. 24, 1935, the son of Ralph and Coletta Short in Carroll, Iowa. He married Janet Walters on Feb. 14, 1986. He worked at Klein Tools for 18 years, retiring in 1986.
Bob's greatest pleasures in life were spending time with family and friends, and having a cold drink with his neighbors and friends. He loved doing wood work in his spare time as well as cheering on his beloved Hawkeyes, Bears, Yankees and Cubs. He was an avid member and governor of the Moose Lodge #304. He was dearly loved as an ever present fixture by his 24th Street family. Bob's presence and smile will be truly missed by all who knew him.
