Shirley Yeries
SHIRLEY ERWIN YERIES
Tiffin
Shirley Erwin Yeries passed away peacefully April 12, 2017, after a long illness.
Shirley was born May 13, 1946, to Clair and Dorothy Erwin. She married Franklin "John" Yeries in 1979 and moved to John's family farm near Tiffin. Shirley began teaching at Clear Creek High School shortly after they were married. While teaching full time, she earned her master's degree and continued as the Clear Creek-Amana High School librarian until her retirement in 2007.
Shirley was the founder of Springmier Community Library in Tiffin. She worked very hard to bring this wonderful library to the community and school district. For many years, she was the organist at Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin.
Next to her family, Shirley loved reading above all. She also enjoyed music and singing and watching "Jeopardy."
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents, Clair and Dorothy Erwin.
She is survived by her children, Jake Yeries of Cedar Rapids and Sarah Yeries of Oxford; her granddaughter, Ava Yeries of Amana; her sister, Joan Anderson of Lincoln, Neb.; brother, James Erwin of Marshalltown; and her sisters-in-law, Lorraine (Ray) Kutcher and Mary Jean (Paul) Stebral of Iowa City.
A memorial service to celebrate her amazing life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, at Lensing Funeral Service's Kirkwood Room in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorials be directed to Springmier Community Library in Tiffin.
