Shirley Ann Woods, 83, of Sigourney, passed away Jan. 30, 2021, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
Shirley was born Feb. 21, 1937, in What Cheer, Iowa, to Eileen (Danner) and Roy Fogle. She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1955. She married Edward "Ed" Woods on July 2, 1957, at the Methodist chapel in Oskaloosa. While Ed was in the Air Force, they lived in Spokane, Wash. Once Ed was discharged, they moved back to Sigourney and started a family. Ed's job with GTE moved them to Keota, Malcom and back to Sigourney. Shirley worked as a telephone operator and a cook at several restaurants. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. She spent her life enjoying and taking care of her family. Shirley was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents, Eileen and Roy Fogle; an infant sibling; sister, Ruby Draughn; and brother, Ray Fogle.
Those left to mourn her passing are her five children, Bradley (Nena) Woods of Sigourney, Sally (Mike) Briggs of Grimes, Denise (John) Mohr of Sigourney, Dennis (Cathy) Woods of Rock Island, Ill., and Bryan (Michele) Woods of Kimball, Neb.; 16 grandchildren, Jeremiah (Kristin), Melissa, JD (Abby), Christy, Ashley, Jen (David), Casey (Makayla), Julia (Joe), Stacy (Dustin), Josh, Jacinda (Emma), Chelsea, Dallas, Maisy, Courtney (Casey) and Megan (Mitchell); nine great-grandchildren, Taylor, Addison, Avery, Korben, Nuada, EmAnimus, Aubriella, Jackson, Madilyn and two new babies on the way; three brothers, Kenny (Lois) Fogle of Sigourney, Russell "Buzzy" Fogle of Cedar Rapids and Roger (Betty) Fogle of Oskaloosa; four sisters, Joann Shafar of Schaumburg, Ill., Bonnie Hofer of Lynnville, Grace Shannon of What Cheer and Karen Walker; and many nieces and nephews.
Private family funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney with Pastor Vince Homan officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home
