Shirley Verlee Budreau, 97, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, Oct. 24, 2022, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with burial following. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Shirley Budreau, under the video tab starting at 11 a.m.
Shirley was born Dec. 17, 1924, in West Branch, Iowa, to Victor and Lillian (Jensen) Petersen. She graduated from West Branch High School with the Class of 1942. She later went on to get her degree from Cedar Rapids Business College. She married Edward Budreau on Aug. 15, 1943, in Iowa City, Iowa. Together they had three children. Shirley worked many jobs at Iowa Steel and Iron Works, Dry Cleaners, ran the Hoover Hotel and restaurant, helped run East Side Café in Marengo, and Collins Radio until her retirement. Her family was important to her, and she cherished the time she spent with them.
She is survived by her loving children, Diana Emig, Gary (Jody) Budreau and Susan Rinkema; siblings, Carroll Petersen; six grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Edward John Budreau; her siblings, Dorothy Petersen Gongwer and Joyce Petersen Bennett; son-in-law, Richard Rinkema; her niece, Sheila Bennett; and her nephews, Jerry Lee Gongwer and Robert Gongwer.
