Shirley Geneva Tonsager, 78, of Marion, passed away following a short illness on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Winslow House Nursing Home in Marion. Visitation: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marion. Services: 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, conducted by Pastor John Albertson.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hemphill; grandson, Robert (Jillian) Hemphill; granddaughter, Bryanna Hemphill; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Kylie, Marcus, Harlie and Kiana; three sisters, Arly Behnke, Beulah (Frank) Wagner and Gladys Tonsager; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Dorothy Wilson.
Shirley was born Dec. 21, 1938, in Brookings, S.D., daughter of Gerhard and Sylvia (Sveum) Tonsager. She was a secretary for Iowa Manufacturing for many years. Shirley was a member at Faith Lutheran Church in Marion. She was proud of her Norweigen Heritage. Shirley enjoyed reading, knitting and spending time with her family.
