Shirley J. Snell of College Place, Wash., formerly of Walford, passed away at home on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Fairfax Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Susan Luchinske of Walla Walla, Wash., Richard (Lauri) Luchinske of Cedar Rapids, Sherry (Stephen) Abrams of Norton, Kan., Cindy Michalec of College Place, Jonathan Luchinske of Republic, Wash., Timothy (Karen) Snell of Hebron, Maine, Darla (Joseph) Toulouse of Avon Park, Fla., and Melanie (Dave) Trca of Springville; a special niece, Sheila (Frances) Gatewood of Marion; siblings, Thelma Reynolds of California, Mildred (Donald) McVey of Shelbyville, Ind., James (Violet) Chapin of Oshkosh, Wis., and Laurel Schroeder of Gillette, Wis.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, who passed away in 2013; son, Daniel, who passed away in 1964; and 12 siblings.
Shirley was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Osakis, Minn., to Joseph and Gertrude Chapin. She married Elmer Snell on Dec. 16, 1960. Elmer and Shirley farmed in the Fairfax area for many years. Shirley was an avid gardener. She always had a huge garden and lots of lovely flowers. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her kitchen always smelled delightful. She treasured her family. She loved children and had a special place in her heart for all babies. Shirley and Elmer had a deep love for their Lord and for many years would read the Bible together each evening. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
