Shirley L. Meiner, 85, of Marion, Iowa, died Aug. 3, 2021, after a short illness. She was born on Jan. 21, 1936, in Upland, Neb., to Roy and Alice Detrick. She married Allen Meiner, one of her high school classmates, in 1955. Before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1971, Shirley and Allen lived in Elkhorn, Neb. She was formerly employed by GMAC in Omaha and as a bank teller in Elkhorn. In Cedar Rapids, Shirley worked for Discovery Living and, along with Allen, provided housing for international students attending Kirkwood Community College. Shirley was a long-time member of Cedar Hills Evangelical Free Church in Cedar Rapids.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Virginia; and great-granddaughter, Clarissa.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, David (Cathy) Meiner of Georgetown, Texas, Deb (Mike) Huffman of Jesup, Ga., Mona (Stan) Askren of Terre Haute, Ind., and Curt (Emily) Meiner of Manchester; a sister, Euella Johnson of Minden, Neb.: 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Burial is at Spring Grove Cemetery in Covington, Iowa. The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
