Shirley Jean McMahon, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Linn Manor, Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Shirley is survived by her children, Beverly (Polo) Chavez of Cedar Rapids, Steven (Donna) Robinson of Davenport, Sharon Hursan of Cedar Rapids, Cathy (Brad) Hittie of Cedar Rapids, Rick (Deb) Elliott of Prairieburg, Darla (Jason) Everett of Cedar Rapids and Malia Williams of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bernaver of Davenport, Geraldine (Joseph) Spoo of Davenport, Teresa Dickson of Cedar Rapids and Junie Hackett of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Elliott and Leora Brose; stepfather, Carl Brose; husband, Darrell McMahon; great-granddaughter, Shana Chavez; and brother, William H. Elliott.
Shirley was born Dec. 30, 1936, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Leora (Candler) Elliott. On Oct. 15, 1965, she married Darrell Dean McMahon. Shirley enjoyed making jewelry, dining out and shopping with her daughters. She watched the cooking channel often and loved cooking for family gatherings.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. David Cowden and Dr. Katie Kavanaugh at the Respiratory and Critical Care Unit at UnityPoint-St. Luke's and Hospice of Mercy at Linn Manor.
