Shirley Ann Lannom, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Howard; daughter, Dee Zehms of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Isaac and Emma; and siblings, Judy (Joe) Medakonich of Bellevue, Neb., and Tom McHugh of Keokuk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, James McHugh, who raised her since the age of 8; and a brother, Jimmy.
Shirley was born Jan. 24, 1936, to Glen and Marianne (Petrusch) Plattenberger in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1953, and also from the Cedar Rapids Business College and Paris Academy of Beauty Culture. She became a licensed beautician in 1955. Shirley worked at G.C. Services as a long distance operator, retiring in June 2000 after 13 years of service.
Shirley enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She liked to do puzzles, read and play bingo. Shirley was active in the church and the activities of her grandchildren. She was a wonderful friend to all and had a heart of gold, always willing to help others.
Shirley was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed, as she has touched many lives.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Shirley.
