Shirley Jeanne Schulte, 84, of Iowa City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022.
Shirley was born in Iowa City on Feb. 14, 1938, to Helen (Langenberg) and Myron Ewalt. Shirley grew up in Iowa City. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School and attended Iowa City Commercial College. On Jan. 25, 1967, she married James C. Schulte, and the couple moved to Wellman. Shirley worked as bookkeeper for University of Iowa Printing Services.
Most important to Shirley was raising her two children, Anthony and Jamie Schulte.
Shirley moved back to Iowa City in 1990, retiring from her job with food services at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1999. She was then employed for 10 years at the Waterfront Hy-Vee.
Shirley is survived by her two children, Tony Schulte and Jamie Schulte, both of Iowa City; sister, Helen Shunk of Missouri; brother-in-law, Gerald Fresé; and her special nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Susan, Jane and Carol (Fresé) Ewalt; brothers, Joe, Don and Tom Ewalt; and her husband, James Schulte.
In accordance with her wishes, a simple private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Systems Unlimited, Inc. of Iowa City.
Shirley is finally at peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
