Shirley Gillmore, 70, of Anamosa, died Friday, April 16, 2021, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids, following a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, Springville, Iowa. Burial will be in St. Isadore Cemetery, Springville. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa. Masks must be worn and fitted properly over the nose and mouth at all times to enter the funeral home or church. Surviving are three children, Lucas (Cari), Tiffin, Josette Gillmore, Marion, and Bobbi Gillmore, Marion; grandchildren, Keegan, Gavin, Rowan and Georgia Gillmore; and two siblings, Helen Walker, Spencer, and Butch (Peggy) Espey, Byron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon, in 2020; and two brothers, Marcus and Joe.
Shirley Katherine Espey was born Dec. 9, 1950, in Cresco, Iowa. She was the daughter of Elmer and Edna Jungers Espey. Shirley graduated from Spencer High School in 1969 and continued her education at Iowa Lakes Community College. In 1975, she became employed by Linn County Social Services in Cedar Rapids.
Shirley Espey married Eldon Gilmore on July 22, 1978, in Marion. The couple farmed in the Springville area. Shirley was employed at Finance America until 1986 when she opened a day care. Shirley operated her day care until she retired in 2015. She taught CCD at St. Isadore Catholic Church for many years. She loved to crochet in her spare time.
