Shirley Nash was born June 16, 1939, in Iowa City, the daughter of Vern and Helen (Gilroy) Nash. She was united in marriage to Marvin W. Frees on Feb. 13, 1961. The couple made their home in this area, where Shirley had worked over the years at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Dillard's, and most recently Homestead Cafe, from where she retired.
To say that Shirley was an Elvis fan is an understatement! In addition to Elvis, she enjoyed long car rides, dancing, playing Yahtzee, someone else's home-cooked meals and simply being with her family.
Her family includes her children, Linda Whitney (Bob), Jimmy Frees, Kenny Frees and Peggy Slade (Tim); grandchildren, Tasha Franks, Tanya Franks, Ashley Frees, Heather Frees and Corey Whitney; 12 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bill Nash (Colleen).
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Johnie Frees; and siblings, Don Kline, Gene Kline and Marilyn Furman.
