Shirley Exline, 84, of Fairfax, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. As per Shirley's wishes, private graveside services will be held at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Shirley was born March 12, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harry and Lucille (Williams) Gorman. Shirley was a secretary at College Community School District for more than 32 years, where she shared her great love for children. She served eight years on the school board after retirement. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent many hours volunteering at the Clothes Hanger at St. Mark's United Methodist Church.
Shirley is survived by her children, Debra (John) Burns of Owasso, Okla., Becky Kramer of Cedar Rapids and Douglas (Nancy) Exline of Fairfax; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Vivian Gorman of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; and her brothers, Bobbie and Harry Gorman.
