Shirley Dixon, 82, of Marion, formerly of Bloomfield, passed away with her children by her side on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Linn Manor Care Center in Marion.
She was born Dec. 26, 1935, in Cottonport, La., to James E. and Ellen Elizabeth Wallace Savage. She married E.D. Dixon on Feb. 13, 1954, in Mississippi. The couple had two children, Mary and Don. Years later, they divorced.
Shirley owned and operated the Kopper Kettle Restaurant on the Bloomfield Square for many years and retired from the senior citizens center, where she worked as a cook. She had a passion for cooking and spent her career doing what she loved. While not working, Shirley enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time with her children. She attended Mark Baptist Church and later Tabernacle Baptist Church in Bloomfield.
She is survived by E.D. Dixon of Vinton; daughter, Mary (Gerald) Offill of Vinton; son, Don Dixon of Miles; two grandchildren, Lana (Dustin) Robison of Atkins and Lydia Offill of Vinton; five great-grandchildren, Gage, Greta, Cole, Layla and Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, Allan, Donald, Marion, Audrey, Rose, Vervie and Ethyl.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Tom Shipley officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday with the family present to greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
