Shirley C. Bahnsen-Holerud, 90, of Onslow passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Onslow, where a visitation will be held one hour prior to her service. A private family burial will be at the Wyoming Cemetery at a later date. Dawson Funeral Services of Wyoming is caring for her family.
Shirley Claire was born at home in rural Onslow on November 5, 1934, to Harm and Mildred (Hamilton) Harms. She graduated from Onslow High School. In June of 1953 she was united in marriage to Wayne S. Bahnsen, three children came of this union. In May of 1998 she was united in marriage to Ordean Holerud. Shirley was a homemaker raising her three children and helping her husband on their farm. She worked briefly at Dohr before working at the Jones County Assessor’s Office for many years. Shirley attended several churches over the years including the First Presbyterian Church in Onslow, Zion American Lutheran Church in Wyoming and the United Methodist Church in Wyoming. She enjoyed her morning coffee club, shopping and her Bowling League that she was still involved in. Her greatest blessings in life were her family, whom she loved spending time with. Shirley was never one to sit still and always had a very busy social life. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
Those thankful for sharing in Shirley’s life include her two children: Steven W. (Wanda) Bahnsen, Brenda (Dennis Miller) Bahnsen, eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, a sister Phyllis Harms and a brother Ken (Barb) Harms.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands: Wayne Bahnsen and Ordean Holerud, son Kevin and a grandson Steven D. Bahnsen.
