Shirlee Dee Mercer, 97, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Shirlee was born on March 4, 1927, in Marion, Iowa, the daughter of Gene and Fern (Dodge) Miller. She graduated from Marion High School. After graduation, she moved to California and worked as a switchboard operator before returning to Iowa. On December 19, 1947, Shirlee was united in marriage to James Fredrick Mercer in Stone City, Iowa, until his death in 1989. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, and raising houseplants. Shirlee will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Shirlee is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, James Mercer of Cedar Rapids, and Jan Mercer of Marion; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Voanne Hansen.
