Shimon, John C.
John C. Shimon, 75, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Mercy Iowa City. A time of gathering for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. A celebration of John's life will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Iowa City VFW, Post 3949.
Memorials in John's name can be made to the Iowa City Animal Shelter.

John Charles Shimon was born Aug. 20, 1938, in Iowa City, the son of Francis S. and Edith (Funk) Shimon. He worked for 18 years at United Technologies Automotive in Iowa City, retiring in 2000. He was a talented musician and enjoyed his time as a band member, especially playing in the Blue Jays with his brothers. John had many friends through the VFW, Eagles and Moose lodges.
His family includes his partner of 23 years, Judy Alberhasky; feline friend, Mister; children, Debra Holmes of Vista, Calif., Sherry Silva (Paul) of Iowa City, Teresa Ayer (Neil) of Iowa City, John Shimon Jr. of Fort Madison, Cathy Saunders (Brendan) of Fort Madison, Sara Crocker of Fort Madison, Tim Paul of Iowa City, Jinny Bowman (Mike) of Riverside, Scott Shimon (Ivy) of Cedar Rapids and Jeremy Shimon of Iowa City; grandchildren, Daniel, Cody, Harley, Jacob, Gabrielle, Corbin and Nicolus; great-grandchildren, Dakota and Sebastian; brother, Fred Shimon (Barb) of North Liberty; and Judy's children, John Alberhasky (Denise), David Alberhasky (Donna) and their children, Kenze, Kyler, Taylor, Alina and Ethan, and Cindy Parks and her children, Devonta and Shaylyn.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donald and Robert Shimon.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for John's family and his services.
