Shimek, Edward
Edward Shimek, 91, of Minneapolis, died Jan. 5, 2012. Funeral services: noon Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Lakewood Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis. Interment: Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Henry W. Anderson Mortuary, 3640 23rd Ave. S., Minneapolis, and one-half hour before the service Wednesday at Lakewood.
Edward was born Nov. 4, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. An accomplished well-known artist for more than 65 years, he was a member of the Minnesota Watercolor Society. He was also in the Iowa Speed Skating Hall of Fame.
Ed will be dearly missed by son, Dan Shimek; daughter, Laurie (Mark) Boyd; grandchildren, Anthony Shimek and Samantha Boyd; brother, Robert Shimek; and nieces, nephews, family and friends.
