Shields, Everett Donald
Everett Donald Shields, 87, of Fairfield, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at his home in Sunnybrook Assisted Living. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Methodist Church, Fairfield, with the Rev. Mike Metz and the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. A time of fellowship will follow the service in the church basement. Private burial of cremains will be at Bethesda Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church or Iowa Hospice and sent to 3000 W. Madison, Apt. 212, Fairfield, IA 52556.
Everett was born Oct. 30, 1922, in Highland Center to Orville and Elizabeth Millard Shields. He married Lois Lansman 65 years ago on August 2, 1944, in Fairfield.
He graduated from Farson High School and attended Parsons College. He served in the military in the Navy during World War II.
Everett was a member of the First Methodist Church in Fairfield.
He worked at FALCO for 30 years. Everett enjoyed working with his hands. He loved woodworking, gardening and being with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Ron (Deb) Shields of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Connie (Gordon) Cannoles of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren, Allison Cannoles, Travis and Jenny Cannoles Littlefield, Aaron and Lindsey Shields, Jill Cannoles and Brian Shields; two great-grandchildren; Cooper and Kylie Littlefield; a nephew, Roger Elliott; and a niece, Barb Hendrickson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Elliott.
