Sheumaker, Clara Lorrene
Clara Lorrene Sheumaker, 92, a resident of Heritage Nursing and Rehab in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Centerville, died at Heritage Nursing on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Iowa Cremation is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, William; a daughter, Sharon (Floyd) Sandford of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Christine and Sharon Sheumaker, both of Davenport, Jamie Sheumaker of Bettendorf, Susan Sandford of Durham, N.C., and Steph Cherrywell of Seattle, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; a nephew, Roderick Myers; and a niece, Carmolette Cluff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, James; a sister, Lavelle Johnston; and a brother, Harold Lamb.
Clara was born April 5, 1921, in Davis County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Gertrude Barnett Lamb. She married William L. Sheumaker on March 18, 1939, in Lancaster, Mo.
Clara owned a yarn shop and worked at Raymond's Dairy Crème in the 1960s but her real vocation was being a wife and mother. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross-stitch embroidery and traveling.
Clara's memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her and will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation in Clara's name.
