SHERYL JASPERSE
Cedar Rapids
My name is Sheryl D. Jasperse. I was born Sept. 4, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Mich. I lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with my husband, Daryl Julich.
My parents are George and Nancy Jasperse, also of Grand Rapids. I have three sisters, two of which live in Grand Rapids, Sandy Hill and her husband, Kelly, and Jennifer Cook and her husband, Tony. And Amy Glaspie and her husband, Mike, live in Florida. And also many nieces and nephews.
I have been a freelance writer for these past 13 years. Some of my projects included being editor of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library's bi-annual magazine, Slovo; and grant writing for the Catherine McAuley Center.
I also wrote bicycling trip articles. Two of my favorite
trips were Bike and Barge Netherlands and the Florida Keys Over Seas Heritage Trail with Daryl. We traveled with friends to many running events, quite a few being marathons.
In the winter you could find Daryl and me in Florida for two weeks on a visit to my sister's condo on the Atlantic side of the state. One of our favorite pastimes was to sit on the sixth floor balcony watching the sun rise with a steaming cup of coffee. Those were really good times.
Now for some sad news, I passed away March 13, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
I hope that if you have tears right now that they are tears of joy and not sorrow, because I'm finally home and resting in one of the many rooms of my Father's house that He has prepared for all of us.
I would like to share with you a psalm sent to me by a dear friend, Psalm 62: 5-8 – "Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; He is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge."
If you would like to send a memorial gift, please send a gift to the Catherine McAuley Center, where I taught English as a second language for 10 years. They do wonderful work down there. The address is: 866 Fourth Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403.
Blessings to all.
There will be a small family service at Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church. Also there will be a Celebration of Sher's life at Clark Alumni House at Coe College on March 30 from 1 to 5 p.m.
