Sheryl J. Thornton, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday Jan. 1, 2019, at St. Luke's Hospital. There will be a visitation at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by services at Noon at the River of Life Church. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Edwin; two daughters, Heather (Michael) Deeter of Cedar Rapids and Jessica (Clayton) Schuety of Niceville, Fla.; two sons, Joshua (Heidi) and Ed (Trinity); and her mother, Lois Jensen, all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren.
She is preceeded in death by her father, Robert; and a brother, Bill Jensen.
Sheryl was born on June 29, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert and Lois (Cook) Jensen. She was an associate pastor at River of Life Ministries for several years. Sheryl was the secretary of Teufelhund Veterans Group and was a member of the Rumors family. She enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls and especially the time spent with her beloved family and many friends.
The family would like to thank UnityPoint Hospice and the many family and friends that visited Sheryl at her home when she was sick.
The family requests that casual attire (cuts/colors) are encouraged at the service and reception at Rumors Bar and Grill. Please no flowers, plants or tears, just cheers.
