Sherrer, Dorothy I.
Dorothy I. Sherrer, 84, of Oelwein, passed away Saturday morning, June 18, 2011, at the Oelwein Health Care Center. Memorial Mass of the Resurrection: 10 a.m. Thursday, June 23, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Harry Koelker officiating. Visitation: from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, where there will be a parish Scripture service at 7 p.m. Inurnment: Campton Cemetery, rural Lamont.
Dorothy Irene Dalen was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of Gordon Charles and Thresa Kathryn (Hanson) Dalen. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1945. She married Charles Emmett Sherrer on Dec. 27, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Strawberry Point.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Sherrer of Oelwein; five children, Kathy (Lawrence) Fettkether of Arlington, Joseph Sherrer of Lakeville, Minn., John (Erlinda) Sherrer of Cedar Rapids, Sue Peine of Oelwein and Ann (Michael) Martin of Robins; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and her special pet, Benji.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
